Under TRABİS, open extensions such as .com.tr, .net.tr, .org.tr and the direct .tr are allocated first come, first served. You do not need to send a trademark certificate, trade registry gazette or signed form; registration is completed online through an accredited registrar.
Restricted extensions such as .av.tr require a document proving the applicant is entitled to the extension (for .av.tr, a document showing you are a lawyer registered with a bar association). After ordering you can send your documents through our client area; the domain is allocated once they are reviewed.

For many years .tr addresses were managed by nic.tr at Middle East Technical University (METU). In that period, .com.tr applications required documents such as a trademark certificate or trade registry record. On 14 September 2022 the TRABİS system of Turkey's Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) went live, and extensions such as .com.tr, .net.tr and .org.tr began to be allocated without documents, first come, first served. Applications are no longer made directly through nic.tr; every registration goes through an accredited registrar such as BurtiNET.
TRABİS also made second-level registrations possible, in the form yourbrand.tr. The priority phases for existing .tr holders ended on 7 August 2024; since then direct .tr addresses are also allocated to the first applicant. If you want a short address, check the .tr option together with .com.tr.
Foreign individuals and companies used to need documents proving business activity in Turkey. That requirement no longer applies to open extensions; people living abroad and foreign companies can register a .com.tr or .tr by entering complete registrant details.
.tr addresses are allocated for at least 1 and at most 5 years at a time, and the total term after renewal cannot exceed 5 years. Keep auto-renew on so you do not miss the expiry date. To move a .com.tr from another provider to BurtiNET with its transfer code, follow the steps on our domain transfer page.
Some names are closed to registration by regulation. Applications containing expressions against public order, historical and cultural names in the public domain, or misleading words such as "bank", "finance" or "ministry" may be rejected. Even if a search shows such a name as available, the registration may not complete.
If your audience is in Turkey, .com.tr immediately tells visitors they are dealing with a local business and is a strong signal for Google's country targeting. If you are building an international brand, also registering the .com protects your name in both markets. Compare other extensions on our domain search page and check who owns an address with our WHOIS tool.
